Ranking My Top 5 Tracks On Taylor Swift’s Album “Fearless.”

Taylor Swift keeps giving and we keep receiving. Swift announced this morning on GMA that she is officially done rerecording her second album “Fearless” which can be expected sometime in April. The re-recorded album titled, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” will include the 13 songs from the original album as well as 6 songs straight from the vault. Taylor says that she’s decided to add these 6 never before released songs so that we can get the full picture.

To briefly summarize, Taylor Swift has decided to rerecord her earlier albums so that she can have full control of her masters.

I personally can’t wait to hear the new emotions that Swift will bring to her old songs. So many of Taylor’s song are included in the soundtrack of my life. She’s one of those artists that writes from the heart and somehow manages to make her personal experiences feel universal. I remember being a pre-teen shouting her songs in my room, in the backseat of my parent’s car, and now as a 23-year-old not much has changed.

Taylor Swift has put out a total of 8 complete albums. That doesn’t include EPs, deluxe editions, or live versions. From those 8 albums, I have to say that “Fearless” is definitely top 3 and all these conversations about her rerecording have me thinking… which songs are the best from the album? In no particular order, here are my top 5 tracks.

Fearless:

This song, my goodness. Here’s the thing, I’ve always been a hopeless romantic and this song speaks to all of the emotions that I like to feel. This song reminds me of what it’s like when you meet someone, and they make you feel giddy. Yes, giddy. This song should be the anthem for the beginning of all relationships. Taylor shares that when she wrote this song she wasn’t dating anyone or even at the beginning stages of anything but was inspired by the ideology of what was the best first date.

Love Story:

One does not talk about the album “Fearless” and leave out the iconic song, “Love Story.” Again, let’s remember that when this album came out, I was 11 and I really believed that I was Juliet waiting for her prince. The song was inspired by a love interest that Taylor’s loved ones weren’t a fan of. At the time she was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, however, decided to give the duo a happy ending unlike Shakespeare. This song reminds me of that love that most people experience when they’re young. It’s the kind of love that makes you throw caution to the wind. While I don’t have that personal experience, almost 13 years later and this song still makes me feel like I do. This song recently made its way back onto the charts after a remix went viral on TikTok.

The Way I Loved You:

The intro to this song…need I say more? This song plain and simple is about being in a relationship with a guy while wanting to be with the one that’s complicated but oh so exciting. I love this song because it shows how messy and complicated human emotions can be. She’s in a relationship with a guy who on paper is great for her, but she’s pining over the one who made her FEEL. It also reminds me that love makes us crazy sometimes. There’re highs, lows, but somewhere in that middle ground is why we risk it all for love. And let me just say, I had no business shouting this when I was 12.

White Horse:

I added “Love Story” which means it’s essential that I talk about “White Horse.” While “Love Story” made me feel as though I was Juliet waiting for my Prince Charming, “White Horse” wrecked me.  As humans we feel everything so deeply sometimes. Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve always been a hopeless romantic. I love, love. But this song makes me sad because it’s about realizing that the person you loved isn’t actually who you thought they were. It’s about realizing that a relationship is coming to an end and all you can do is prepare yourself for the ending. We grow up believing in fairytales and that our Prince Charming is going to come and swoop us off our feet.  But in reality, humans are messy and complicated beings and the ones that we fall in love aren’t any different.

Change:

“Change” is one of those Taylor Swift songs that I want to play when I’m feeling victorious. This song is about watching everything that you’ve worked so hard for finally pay off. Taylor wrote this song when she was signed to Big Machine Records and realized that things would be harder for them compared to a bigger label. She went on to finish the song the day after she won the Horizon Award at the 2007 CMAs. It was like everything they had worked so hard for was finally starting to come to fruition. As a first-generation Mexican-American college senior that’s preparing to graduate, I totally relate to the line, “Tonight we’ll stand, get off our knees.
Fight for what we’ve worked for all these years.”

So there we have it. My top 5 tracks off of Taylor Swift’s second album, “Fearless.” I can’t wait for the rerecorded version of this album and to hear the 6 songs from the vault. Everything that Taylor writes makes me feel and those 6 songs won’t be any different. What’s your favorite song off of “Fearless?” Let me know in the comments or DM me on IG: @stephaniejadem
