Hot Girl Summer

You may have heard the term “hot girl summer” before, but you probably do not know where it came from or what exactly it means.

Hot girl summer comes from a song released in 2019 by Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Ty Dolla Sign. Previous to the release of the song, the saying became viral on social media as a meme. But since then, the phrase has become common as women everywhere claim that they want a “hot girl summer” every year since then.

But what does hot girl summer mean?

The gist of it is a fun summer, but Megan thee Stallion, the creator of hot girl summer, said it best, hot girl summer is about “just being you, just having fun. It’s turning up, driving the boat, and not giving a damn about what nobody’s saying.” To her, and now thousands of girls across America, it means you’re in charge of your happiness, and that’s your summer priority.

There has been a small amount of controversy over the word “hot” in the term. Some have interpreted it to mean that you need to be skinny and sexy, or others have said it means you want to sleep around. Megan has since shut down those accusations and has officially laid out the rules for hot girl summer:

  1. You have to the life of the party.
  2. You have to be kind and confident.
  3. You have to like to drive the boat.

Well, you’ve heard it from Coach Meg herself; those are the official and only rules for having a hot girl summer! Stay cool, have fun, and be safe this summer.
